Key Features
Sleep Stage Tracking
Breaks down light, deep, and REM sleep every night, plus wake time. The daily Sleep Coach gives you a target bedtime based on recovery demand.
HRV and Recovery Score
Measures heart rate variability overnight and turns it into a simple 0 to 100 recovery score. Its the feature that made us pay attention on short sleep nights.
Charge While Wearing
The slide-on battery pack charges the band without taking it off. So the data stream never has a gap.
Subscription Required
The band is included with a membership, starting around $30 a month or less annually. No subscription, no data. Its how WHOOP makes money.
Our Experience
The first two weeks with WHOOP were humbling. It turns out our “7 hours of sleep” was actually 6 hours 12 minutes of actual sleep, with the rest spent falling asleep and drifting in light sleep. That single data point changed how we thought about bedtime.
The recovery score is the feature that works the hardest. On days it showed us at 34 percent recovery, we skipped intense training. On days it showed 75+ percent green, we pushed harder. After six weeks, our HRV trend was up, and resting heart rate was down. Thats either confirmation bias or actual progress, we will take either.
The subscription model is the honest weak point. You are not buying a device, youre renting access to your own data. For people who will use the insights daily, its worth it. For casual sleep trackers, something like a Fitbit makes more financial sense.

Final Verdict
WHOOP 4.0 is the best sleep and recovery tracker weve tried, full stop, if youre willing to pay monthly forever. It gave us actionable data about our sleep that no other tracker surfaced. Is the subscription annoying? Yes. Is the data worth it for someone serious about training and recovery? Also yes. Not for everyone, but great for who its for.
