Our Experience
We installed the SwitchBot Roller Shade on a south-facing bedroom window that gets hammered by morning sun. Before this, we were waking up at 5:30 AM every day whether we wanted to or not. Now the room stays pitch black until the shade opens on schedule at 7.
Installation was straightforward, mount the brackets, hang the shade, pair it in the app. Took about 20 minutes. The only tricky part is getting the measurements right before you order, because the shade needs to fit your window frame precisely.
The motor is impressively quiet. We measured it at about 35 dB from 6 feet away, which is quieter than a whisper. Our test sleeper (a light sleeper, for what it’s worth) didn’t wake up when the shade opened in the morning.
Battery life has been solid. After a month of twice-daily open/close cycles, we’re still at 60% battery. The optional solar panel would basically make charging a non-issue, but even without it you’re looking at recharging every 3-4 months.
Worth noting: you need a SwitchBot Hub (sold separately) for voice control and remote access outside your home. Without the hub, you can still use the app and schedules via Bluetooth, but you lose the Alexa/Google integration.
